The first stage of lust is when a living entity
gets attracted towards some object in the material world.
Once this attraction becomes too powerful to bear
it becomes a desire.
When this desire becomes very strong it becomes a
want.
Now the entity starts feeling that he/she cannot
live without possessing the object of desire.
