1.  Chandragupta Murya’s grandson emperor Ashoka who has been hailed as the greatest emperor in the world died a mendicant in a village in Kerala.

2.  Chaitnya Mahaprabhu left everything and became a wandering monk.

3.  His disciple Sukhdeva Goswami could not even believe that he himself had written a book called Chaitnya Charitamrata at a time when he himself was not only ailing but totally bed ridden.

4.  Bhaktivedanta Swami the founder of ISCKON(International society for Krshna Consciousness) was already seventy, was suffering from blood pressure & heart trouble, and was practically penniless when he landed in New Orleans(USA), towed in a cargo ship from India.

5.  In the next 10 years he wrote several spiritual books, went around the world 14 times on several spiritual tours, delivered numerous lectures, got thousands of followers, & built 108 ISCKON temples around the word ultimately receiving moksha (deliverance) on 14^th November 1977 at the age of 80. All this was possible just because of spiritual courage & god’s grace.   

6.  Swami Yogananda Paramahansa founded YSS(Yogoda Satsang Society) to propagate Kriya Yoga a form of meditation all around the world.

Examples of courage on the spiritual side:

1.  Mahaveer Jain started a cult called Jainism which is so popular all over the world.

2.  Gautam Buddha a prince, left a life of pomp & luxury just to wander around in search of god & started the internationally renowned religion of Buddhism.

3.  Guru Nanak founded the Sikh religion.

4.  Guru Govind Singh’s spiritual courage & strength made him start the dawn of the Sikh martial race.     

5.  Emperor Chandragupta Maurya who was known for his valor embraced Jainism in his later years and took deliverance as a heretic in a place called Sravana Belegola in Karnataka.

On the material side:

1.  Sohom Swami aka Tiger Swami had the material courage to fight & subdue real life tigers. At the same time in his later life he became a monk and spiritualized his innate courage by meditating in the Himalayas, subduing mental beasts, opening two ashrams & writing spiritual books.

2.  Wrestlers, body builders, boxers, strong men, ironmen, power lifters, arm wrestlers, athletes, sportsmen, & martial artists are the best specimen of material courage.

3.  Entrepreneurs, genuine theatre and movie personalities, political leaders etc. exhibit extraordinary vision & mental vigor.

4.  Entrepreneurs risk their wealth & health to establish & run great business houses regardless of whether they are professional investors or Greenfield men. This way they contribute to the society in a positive way.

5.  Genuine artists & leaders try to sell their creations, ideas etc. to the society with scant regard to success or failure.

Till now materialism enjoyed a majority, while spiritualism had been oozing into the individual living entity’s psyche in trickles slowly but steadily.     

When vibration reaches the level of courage, both materialism & courage have reached neutrality that is both are fifty percent in the living entity.

From now on courage can be both material as well as spiritual.

Initially the receiver may revolt initially but then find that he/she is in a hapless situation.

This is a psychological aberration which is actually a warped idea of protecting oneself from future attacks.

Sometimes these same egoistic persons who torment others get a taste of their own medicine. Someone who is equally or even more sadistic than them may put these guys firmly on a receiving end. 

This is the beginning of endless venomous jibes that sting the receiver till his psyche gets blue with poison.

The reader of this article may have time & again come across characters who tend to throw their weight about or to impress upon the others how superior they themselves are compared to the others.

Some of these guys would have honed their intelligence/cunning/skill in such a way that they can  spot some weak unsuspecting guy in the crowd, and at an opportune time, when that poor guy has dropped his/her guard, begin to pull him/her down.

Some in the crowd my get amused by this and/or join the tormentor in this sadistic revelry.

This is actually a cowardly ploy used by egoists to fill the gaping void within oneself.

Killer Charles Sobraj’s mother lamented ‘’ My son looked like an angel till a devil crept inside him.’’

Gangster Joseph Valachi openly regretted that he had not shaven before he received his guest author Peter Mass in prison.

5.  Raghwendra Swami a renowned saint was chastised by his own wife for his flighty behavior.

6.  Sri Sri Yukteswara Giri of YSS has quoted that even the noblest of saints once had a dark past.

4.  Papillon died a few years after his second book BANCO was published & in which he openly hinted that he actually deserved all the hardships he had faced.

  

5.  Mike Tyson the world famous boxer who had been convicted of rape went on record claiming that his life had been a waste.

6.  Devyani Chaubal the queen of sleaze who ceaselessly jabbed her vitriolic tongue & pen into the ballooned up egos of Indian Bollywood bigwigs and relished watching them squirm, openly admitted to a friend that all her life she had harmed people endlessly. She herself died penniless after suffering from stroke.

1.  Mobster & mass murderer Louis Lepke Buchalter was so disgusted with his own existence that he went and sat on the electric chair himself to get executed.

Mobster Alcapone’s guilt gnawed at his psyche so much that after spending years in a maximum security prison, he contracted syphilis, went mad and died a broken man in his Florida mansion.

Mobster Frank Nitty got so disgusted with himself that he committed suicide.

All sorts of lame excuses for his/her sins begin queuing up as the guilty one tries unsuccessfully to make the world see his/her side of the story. When he/she finds that the society is not at all convinced he/she plunges into an abyss of unbearable grief. This time he/she has no one to turn to for support/understanding.

At last he/she finds that he/she has to stew in his/her own juice.

Apathy/indifference/callousness/lethargy/boredom these are actually defense mechanisms of genuinely guilty people. It is a denial mode they resort to after living a masochistic lizard like existence for long. It is the climax that comes after wallowing in self sympathy endlessly. It comes, after the pain of mental torture for sins once committed becomes unbearable.

The native tries to reason albeit unsuccessfully that the tormented is as much to blame as the tormentor himself/herself.

The guilty consciousness in us makes us ashamed of everything. Superiority complex is bad but inferiority complex is worse. 

In fact we all have sometime or the other come across instances where some guys make a ridiculous show of superiority to hide their own inferiority complex.   

Shame comes at the bottom of the ladder of spiritualism, closely followed by guilt. Both compliment each other and drag the entity down into a bottomless pit of hopelessness and self sympathy.

Unless the entity pulls himself/herself up from this abyss he/she cannot progress further in his/her voyage towards self realization.

The boy almost sneered.

‘’ My first few years were luxurious.’’ The old man smiled weakly ‘’but the money dwindled away so fast that by the time I realized that I was in dire straits, I was left stranded in this big bad world.’’

‘’ Thanks to my detailed knowledge of the gang’s activities I could locate and retrieve several stashes which could have otherwise been claimed by my fellow criminals too but who were now either already dead or were in prison.’’

‘ Here it comes.’ The boy thought.

‘’ Cunning that I was I vanished successfully along with my ill gotten gains.’’

The kid nodded understandingly. And then the old man dropped a bombshell ’’I who was as devilish as the others, escaped unscathed.”

The boy’s breath stopped. The old man had a queer expression which was a mixture of relief, jubilation & strange lamentation. The boy suspected that the old guy was not really happy at this strange lease of life.

‘’During a gun battle I suddenly tripped and fell into a ditch.’’ The old man sighed ‘’ thinking that I had met my own macabre end, the cops ignored me.’’
