The talented and adamant Aswathama befriended Duryodhana and took this guy’s guidance in becoming self educated.

Just like his father Acharya Drona & uncle Acharya Kripa Aswathama was molded by his friends like Karna, Duryodhana and Dushasana.

That is why its said: “ YOU ARE JUDGED BY THE COMPANY YOU KEEP.”

Aswathama, the only son of Acharya Drona and Kripi, was a Brahmin by birth. He is supposed to be an incarnation of one of Lord Siva’s Rudras.

Because he was a Brahmin and because Acharya Drona was scared for his safety, Acharya Drona shied away from teaching martial arts and science to Aswathama.

Next was Ashwathama. In the Mahabharata the following have been considered the handsomest:

1.  

Arjuna.

2.  Aswathama.

3.  Nakula.

4.  Duryodhana.

Similarly the following were considered the heftiest:

1.  

Bhima

2. Dushasana

3. Karna

4. Kichika

Besides this Karna was cursed by a Brahmin when Karna’s chariot crushed and killed the poor brahmin’s cow by mistake. 

The Brahmin cursed him thus: “ Just like my cow which is like a mother to me, has been killed by you, this chariot of yours will be gobbled up by mother earth at a crucial time.’’

Thus this tragic hero was afflicted by the following problems:

1.  

His own biological mother abandoned him at birth.

2. 

His teacher Lord Parasurama cursed him.

3.

  One pious Brahmin cursed him.

4.  

This along with further factors resulted in his death in the battle field.

However when Lord Parasurama asked him which group Karna belonged to he claimed that he belonged  to the fourth storey. This was absolutely wrong because the Brahmin from the 4^th storey belongs to the goodness mode.

Karna was aware of the passion and ignorance mode but not about the goodness mode.

When this was finally proved Lord Parasurama got very angry and cursed him and said that he shall forget all that lord Parasurama had taught him, at the moment when he would need these teachings most.

Now let us take each storey as a caste. 

This way Sudra belongs to the 1^st storey, the Vaisya to the 2^nd storey, Ksatriya to the 3^rd storey & Brahmin to the 4^th storey.

Karna belonged to the 3^rd storey but was brought up in the 1^st storey.

This way he has a knowledge of the 1^st, 2^nd, & 3^rd stories.

Now suppose there is a 4 storey building with the staircases for all passing through each storey.

In other words, one has to climb through the staircases only from inside the building. 

Thus one in the fourth storey must at least be aware of what is there in the third, second, & first storey.

The same applies to other stories too.

In the Indian society the caste system has been popularized as follows:

Brahmin (Goodness mode.).

                        ↓

Ksatriya (Passion mode).

                        ↓

Vaisya (Passion + ignorance mode.).

                        ↓

Sudra ( Ignorance mode.)

In other words without any sort of prejudice to the individuals they have been divided into 4 categories according to their individual modes of material nature.

Though Karna was born a Kshatriya he was lovingly brought up by a Sudra.

This way Karna just by birth had perfect knowledge of how a Kshatriya behaved. 

Secondly as the adopted son of a Sudra he knew how a Sudra reacted to various circumstances.

Thanks to his being in these categories he could also have a passing knowledge about Vaisyas. 

This is because the Vaisya is in between these two castes.

That was precisely the reason why lord Parasurama hated the Ksatriyas- their arrogance & haughtiness. He refused to teach his skills to members of the Ksatriya clan. 

However he never refused to teach a Sudra, Vaisya or Brahmin.

Karna was very well aware of this but when lord Parasurama asked him what his caste was Karna replied tongue in cheek that he was a Brahmin.

This irritated Lord Parasurama no end and that too with a reason.

Having no other go Karna approached lord Parasurama for learning martial arts and science.

Lord Parasurama was an incarnation of lord Vishnu. Just on looking at Karna he understood Karna’s true identity.

Lord Parasurama was very angry with the Ksatriyas because these guys tended to misuse their power at the expense of innocent, weak and helpless folks.

More troubles were in store for Karna. 

Aware of his self worth he as a young lad went to Acharya Drona to learn martial skills. 

However the haughty teacher baulked imperiously slighting Karna by saying that he taught only princes.

Only later at Duryodhana’s behest Acharya Drona accepted Karna as a pupil albeit reluctantly.

Karna is the typical case of that soul which chooses to remain as a separate soul which despite being a spark of the eternal flame, gets extinguished because of its being alone. Karna is considered to be a tragic hero of the Mahabharata. 

Born out of Kunti’s wedlock, Karna was brought up as the adopted son of the royal charioteer.

Man to man Karna was equal to or superior to all the other Pandavas put together. In fact Draupadi did not make any bones about her insatiable lust for Karna.

Kunti was a very noble woman who due to her curiosity and impetuousness gave birth to Karna as an unwed mother.

Later she became the wife of Pandu and became a mother of the Pandavas.

However despite her royal life style she had to suffer untold distress all her life, but thanks to her devotion for lord Krishna and because he also happened to be her nephew, her sons ultimately inherited Hastinapur.

On seeing his whole family thus tortured & killed by Dhritarashtra Shakuni went mad with sorrow, pain, distress and anger . 

When he cremated his dead parents, kith and kin, he took their remaining bones, made two dices out of them and swore on the dices that he will not rest till he had avenged their macabre end completely.

This resulted in his plotting the downfall of the Kuru family/

Shakuni remembered this slight by Bhishma of forcibly getting 

Gandhari married to Dhritarashtra. But his ire was further 

aroused to a demonic level because of one unpleasant incident.

Once the ignorant king Dhratarashtra got suspicious of 

Ganghari’s chastity and imprisoned the whole family with the 

stern instructions that they be fed the bare minimum.

Due to this inhuman torture, while rest of the family died due to 

starvation, only Gandhari and Shakuni survived.

When Bhishma went to Shakuni’s father asking for her hand in marriage for prince Dhratarashtra, Shakuni protested saying that he did not want his sister to marry a blind prince.

However when Bhishma got adamant, he had no other choice but to grin and bear it because Bhishma and his clan where the most powerful ones in that area at that time.

None could have imagined that the wily Shakuni was not above cutting his own nose to spite his own face.

Shakuni was the crown prince of a place called Kandhar. He was the elder brother of princess Gandhari & was fiercely protective of his sister.

The third and youngest brother of Dhratharashtra who despite being the wisest and most knowledgeable of all brothers was officially not recognized as noble because of his birth.

Vidura for that was his name was reduced to being an adviser to Dhratarashtra just because he was not of noble birth but was born to a maid servant.

Thus the poor man watched on helplessly as Dhrtarashtra slowly but steadily succumbed to the machinations of his brother-in-law Shakuni.

Then there was Pandu the younger brother of Dhratrashtra and father of the Pandavas.

Just like his own official ancestor Shantanu, Pandu despite his extraordinarily regal bearing, fell flat when the pretty Madari turned on her feminine charm on the otherwise straight laced Pandu.

This resulted in his untimely death thanks to a curse.

The best way to recognize a one in a crore & make sure that he/she does not leave you ever is to strive to become that one in a crore yourself because rest assured:

Not only was Dhratrashtra blind but he was constantly accompanied by his wife Gandhari who deliberately tied her own eyes with a cloth lest her husband should feel inferior and deprived of eyesight.

If only Gandhari had retained her eyesight she could probably have provided proper guidance to Dhratarashtra and thus the epic war would probably not have happened.

King Dhritrashtra was blind by birth. This shows that he was in the ignorance mode all his life, except probably in the last few years.

People who are themselves ignorant should never be in the helm of affairs in a state which consists of a society belonging to humans from all modes of material nature.

On the other hand Sudama was a very poor Brahmin whose only plus point was that Lord Krishna was his friend.

However as mentioned in the holy Bhagawad Gita, painstaking as it may be, Sudama held to his duties as a Brahmin steadfastly, unlike the other two Acharya Dron and Acharya Krip who chose to live as Kshatriyas due to their material desires which were unending.

However in the long run destiny gave Sudama a luxurious life, Acharya Dron death and Acharya Krip notoriety.

Acharya Dron & Acharya Krip were noble Brahmins who were not only highly educated and well qualified but were well respected, and successful as teachers for princes.

Left to himself Acharya Krip could have been probably a pro Pandava person. For all one knows he would probably never have featured in the Mahabharata turf war. 

There is a popular saying ‘’ You are judged by the company you keep.’’

Because Acharya Krip chose Acharya Dron’s company his own destiny got shaped accordingly. 

In other words he became at least a silent witness to all that happened in the Mahabharatha between the Kauravas and the Pandavas.

Acharya Krip was in a catch 22 situation. He and his sister Kripi were born orphans. Despite being born in a Brahmin family, they were brought up by King Shantanu a Kshatriya.

When the two came to age Kripi got married to Acharya Dron. Thus began Acharya Krip’s contact with Acharya Dron who was totally materialistic.
