The first thing god did to appease the demons
was that he gave them the right to make themselves so powerful as to prevent
anyone except god to defeat/kill them. Even such death turned out to be a sort
of deliverance for the demons.
The second was for lord Shiva to designate
an extraordinarily knowledgeable albeit slightly unwilling sage like
Shukracharya as the teacher/guide and protector of the demons.
