Self Realization

                                               Srimad Bhagavatam

God is the repository of all virtues.

He is a friend of the destitute, the needy, the poor and the helpless.

One should love him and be in the company of those who love him.

God is the infinite Brahman.

He is unchanged, unequalled, without beginning and without end.

His form is sheer bliss.

He is the supreme goal.

One should seek his refuge as the ultimate aim in life.

Self Realization

                                             Srimad Bhagavatam

God is the only refuge and comfort.

Through meditation and practice one can achieve the grace of god.

God alone can wipe away all our miseries and fulfill all our desires.

One should put one’s heart and soul in the worship of god.

With complete devotion one finds him in one’s own heart.

The light within us is covered by darkness but by devotion one can uncover that light.

This can be done by a self realized soul and so one should search for a guru.

Blessed are they who devote themselves to the service of god.

Through pranayama which is inhaling, exhaling and holding of breath, one is able to control one’s mind.

Once the mind is controlled one becomes ready to meditate.

One should meditate on the god within and feel his love, protection and guidance.

Once one sees god within oneself, one will begin to see god in all.

Thus through constant meditation on god one will know the truth.

Self Realization

                                         Srimad Bhagavatam

One should worship God regularly, chant his name, sing his praises and dwell more and more in divine thoughts.

One should learn to see god in all.

One should be respectful to the sages.

One should be kind and friendly to the poor and the destitute.

God is manifested most in the hearts of his devotees.

So one who is interested in self realization should dwell within oneself, discover the god within one self and meditate upon him all the time.

Self Realization

                                        Srimad Bhagavatam

One cannot practice yoga with developing a love for god.

Love which is divine is expressed differently by different individuals as per their evolution.

Those who have hatred, jealously, pride and anger express their love to god in a selfish manner. This love is ignorant and is called Tamasika.

Then there is the Rajasika or passionate love where the individuals love god to fulfill their material ends.

But when one loves god for the sake of love alone and when one offers oneself wholeheartedly to god that is Satavika love which is in the form of goodness.

But when the lover, the love and the beloved become one, when one loves every one as a self in every being, when one loves everyone because one sees god in all, that is divine love.

When this divine love fills one’s heart one transcends this material love and gets united with Brahman.

To achieve this divine love one should work without a thought of reward.

One’s work should turn into worship.

One should worship god, chant his name and think about him all the time.

One should see god in all beings, revere great sages and be kind and friendly to all.

Thus one will attain the kingdom of heaven.

Self Realization

                                              Srimad Bhagavatam

One should do one’s duty sincerely regardless of one’s status in life.

One should surrender one’s actions and the fruits of those actions to god.

One should be in the company of holy people and should render service to them.

One should acquire a thirst for righteousness, truth and freedom.

One should never injure another creature.

One should ever be truthful and should not covet other people’s wealth.

One should accept only that much which is necessary for one’s daily needs.

One should practice self control and self denial and lead a pure contented life.

One should be clean in body mind and soul.

One should study the scriptures with diligence.

One should select a secluded spot to be used for meditation only.

One should sit with his body erect but not tense.

One should then practice the control of breath.

One’s mind should be gathered in itself and should not be allowed to divert towards external objects.

The mind should be fixed on one of the centers of consciousness within the body.

One should meditate on the divine attributes.

Through this practice will come remarkable spiritual growth.

By practice of pranayama one will get excellent health.

On practicing pratyahara one will stop getting attracted to external objects.

Practice of concentration will bring purity of heart.

Meditation will unite one’s self with the divine.

Thus one will always dwell in god consciousness.

And one will find divine love.

Self Realization

                                        Srimad Bhagavatam

One should be content in whatever circumstances one finds himself in.

One should be moderate in eating, drinking, and sleeping.

One should walk on the path of solitude and seek peace within one’s heart.

One should be friendly to all and should not complain about their faults.

One should help others in misery, with all sympathy.

Thus one will be ready to receive the knowledge of truth.

Thus one will be free from ignorance.

Thus one will be free from material consciousness.

Thus one shall realize the self which is the infinitely holy purusha who is ever free.

When one realizes the self and enjoys its divine nature, one’s dream of the material world vanishes.

That person has then conquered heaven and even the powers of yoga do not delude one or control one.

One then lives on earth as a self realized soul and when death arrives one reaches the kingdom of God from where there is no return.

Self Realization

                                          Srimad Bhagavatam

Though Prakriti is undifferentiated, she is the cause of all differentiation.

Prakriti consists of three Gunas viz. Satwik (Goodness), Rajasik (Passion) and Tamasik (Ignorance).

When these gunas are in equilibrium they remain in the state of Prakriti.

But when they lose that equilibrium the universe is formed.

The Purusha is formless, without attributes and changeless.

The Purusha is also called Nirguna.

Just like the sun is reflected in the water but is not affected by the water similarly the

Purusha lives in the body but is not affected by its actions.

However when the Purusha identifies with the three gunas, it identifies with the body and so starts thinking that it is the performer of actions.

And when it thinks so, the Purusha is subjected to Karma and repeated births and deaths.

When the mind gets attracted to the things in the world, attachment to material world happens.

This attachment is followed by a desire to possess the thing.

The small desire gets stronger and becomes lust or greed.

With this greed comes fear of competition.

This fear quickly converts into anger.

Anger is the cause of illuision.

And illusion gives birth to false ego.

To avoid all miseries one should meditate upon God all the time.
