Srimad Bhagavatam
The main purpose of spiritual
practices is self control and perfection in meditation.
The body is a chariot.
The senses are its horses.
The vital energies are the wheels.
Virtue and vice are its spokes.
Objects of senses are the road.
The ego is the rider.
Anger, hatred, jealousy, sorrow,
greed, delusion, pride and thirst for life are the enemies one meets along the
road.
When the rider brings the horses and
the reins in his control his heart becomes pure and he feels divine from
within.
One should carefully cultivate the
following virtues:
Truthfulness
Kindness
Forgiveness
Discrimination
Control of mind
Mastery over passions
Non violence
Continence
Charity
Frankness
Contentment
Devotion to spiritual teachers
Avoiding idle conversation
Seeking the highest truth
Seeing god in all
Human birth is the door through which
one can attain upper or lower births according to one’s deeds.
It is human birth which is the door
to self realization and liberation.
Man finds true happiness and bliss
when he looks within and finds god.
