Despite his extraordinary personal advantages
Bhishma failed just because he was struck by illusion.
This rank material illusion was caused by his love
for his kingdom more than his craving for God’s kingdom.
Hastinapur the kingdom and its prosperity, safety
and security became his top priority.
For once the noble Bhishma chose to
forget that all material things including Hastinapur are transient and that
sooner or later they tend to perish.
This illusion led to the downfall of all.
