1. Bhishma
lived in an illusive world and was very much attached to the material kingdom
of Hastinapur. He was like the disillusioned cardinal Wolsey the man digraced
by king Henry the eighth, who said ruefully ‘’had I served my lord with half
the devotion that I showed this king I would not have come to such a sorry
pass.’’ Duryodhana was scared that this wizened, old, and sanguine Bhishma
would come to harm in this war and so he requested Dronacharya to protect him.
