Learn to see god everywhere and in everyone. Chant his name. Though god dwells in the innermost part of heart in all, he is most manifest in the pure.

Love is divine. The love for god which seeks only him is the best. When the love, lover, and beloved become one the devotee begins loving the self within. In that case one gets united with brahman. Work must be transformed into worship.

While meditating a person should concentrate on first the solar plexus, then the heart, then throat, then a place between one’s eyes and finally the brain. At this time one should practice pranayama.

Do your duty faithfully. Surrender the result of your actions to god. Seek the company of the holy and do service to them. Acquire a thirst for righteousness, truth and freedom. Covet not the wealth of the other. Accept only that which you require for you daily needs. Practice self control and self denial. Be clean in your soul, mind and body. Study the scriptures with diligence.

One should be moderate in eating and drinking. He should walk the path of solitude. He should seek peace within his heart. He should be friendly to all and should not indulge in fault finding.

There is a complete cessation of miseries when one practices the unity with the divine self. Mind is the main cause for bondage and freedom. When it gets attached to Maya, one becomes bound and when it gets attached to God, one finds liberation.

Man is divine, the impersonal truth. His essential nature is pure consciousness. Through ignorance he identifies with the gross body. When man identifies with his body he becomes bound by his deeds. When he realizes that they are separate from the self within, he becomes Brahman.

God is the refuge and strength of all. Meditation on god is the sword that severs the knots of the evil karma. With faith the desire to learn about god comes. And comes the desire to hear the word of god. Once this desire arises one starts taking pleasure in the word. And then all evil vanishes. With evil the impurities are washed away and the true love for god happens. Thus when this love occupies one’s mind man is free from the bondage of repeated births and deaths. He realizes the truth and knows the self. The wise always find joy in god.

Even to listen about god and his pastimes is purifying. The highest religion of man is to think and talk about the lord and his unselfish love for god. Religion is an Inquiry about the truth. The knowers call it knowledge and the Vedas call it Brahman. The worshippers of Hiranyagarbha call it the universal spirit and others call it god.

Men became holy by singing the praises of the lord. Fear does not approach them. By surrendering themselves to the lord the self controlled munis became so perfect that even those who were associated with them became holy.

That which is like poison in the beginning but which tastes like nectar in the end is in the mode of goodness. That which is derived by contact of the senses is passionate. It tastes like nectar in the beginning but becomes poison gradually is in the mode of passion. And that which is blind to self realization and is bitter right from the beginning is in the mode of ignorance.

The knowledge by which the undivided spiritual nature is seen everywhere is in the goodness mode. The knowledge by which a separate living entities are seen by one, is in the passion mode. And where the doer is unaware of the universal truth is in ignorance.

To give up the results of one’s activities is called renunciation. A person who does this is called Renunciant. Prescribed duties should never be renounced. Those in the mode of goodness are attached to auspicious work. The human being should never think himself as the doer. Knowledge, the object of knowledge and the knower are the three factors which motivate action.

a.  Faith can be of three kinds- Goodness, passion and ignorance. In the material world all these are contaminated. Men in the mode of goodness worship the demigods. Those in passion worship demons and those in ignorance worship the ghosts and spirits. Those who go through severe austerities out of false ego and pride are passionate. Food taken in the mode of goodness increases the duration of life. It gives health, strength and satisfaction. Food that is too spicy results in passion. And putrid food is consumed by the ignorant. Sacrifice according to scriptures is in the mode of goodness. That which is done to secure some material benefit is in the mode of passion. Sacrifices done without consulting the scripttures are in the mode of ignorance. The absolute truth is the object of all sacrifices.

1.  Those who are demoniac do not know what is to be done and what is not to be done. They are not clean, nor truthful. Thinking that the world is made up of lust they indulge in all activities meant to destroy this world. The demoniac taking shelter of their insatiable lust, pride and false prestige are always sworn to unclean work. The think that gratifying once lust is the ultimate goal of life. This gives birth to endless anxiety. Being bound by thousands of desires, by lust, and by anger they hanker towards securing mammon through illegal means. The are thus deluded by ignorance. They start hating the super soul within and commit blasphemy. There are three gates to hell- lust, anger and greed. They should be scrupulously avoided by one who wants self realization.

1.  Arrogance, pride, anger, conceit, harshness, and ignorance are demoniac qualities. The divine qualities are conducive to liberation and the demoniac qualities bind the entity. The world is filled with people of the two categories.

1.  Fearlessness, purification of one’s existence, cultivation of spiritual knowledge, charity, self control, performance of sacrifice, study of the Vedas, austerity, simplicity, non violence, truthfulness, freedom from anger, renunciation, tranquility, aversion to fault finding, non covetousness, compassion, gentleness, modesty, steady determination, vigor, forgiveness, fortitude, cleanliness, freedom from envy and passion for honor these are divine qualities.

1.  One who is free from illusion, false prestige, and false association, who understands the eternal, is freed from the duality of happiness and distress and surrenders to the lord attains his kingdom. One who reaches there never returns. The endeavoring transcend list who is situated in self realization can see this clearly. In the material world everyone is fallible and in the spiritual world everyone is infallible.

1.  The material world consists  of three modes of nature namely goodness, passion and ignorance. These three modes are present in everybody in various degrees. A person is judged by the mode which he adopts. The mode of goodness is purer than the other two. It is free from sinful reactions. Those who are in this mode develop knowledge but they are conditioned by the concept of happiness. The mode of passion gives birth to unlimited desires and longings. The mode of ignorance causes delusion, lethargy and sleep. The bind the soul. Goodness conditions one to happiness and bliss, passion to fruits of action and ignorance results in madness. Each mode takes turn in ruling the society. When one dies in the mode of goodness he attains pure and higher planets. One in the mode of passion takes birth in the material world and one who dies in the v mode of ignorance attains hellish births and planets. When the embodied being reaches beyond these modes, he drinks nectar even in this life.

1.  Humility, pride less ness, non violence, tolerance, simplicity, approaching a bona fide spiritual master, cleanliness, steadiness, self control, renunciation of objects of sense gratification, absence of false ego, perception of the evils of birth, death, old age and constant and unalloyed devotion to god, being solitary, detachment from the world, knowing the importance of self realization, and philosophical search for absolute truth are considered knowledge. Brahman the spirit lies spiritual soul is omnipresent. He exists both externally and internally and is near to all. He is the main source of light. He is knowledge, and is situated in every one’s heart. The living entity comes under the influence of the three modes of material nature because he comes under the influence of the material nature. One who sees the soul and the super soul different from the material body is knowledgeable.

1.  False ego, intelligence, mind, ether, air, fire, water and earth constitute the material energies of the lord. These are his inferior energies. The superior energy is spiritualism. Lord is the taste of water, the light of sun & moon, the syllable Om, the sound of the ether and the ability in man. He is the fragrance of the earth and the heat of fire. He is the life in all living beings and the penance of ascetics. He is the original seed of all that exists, the intelligence of all intelligent guys and the power of all powerful men. He is the strength of the strong. He is in the heart of all as super soul.

1.  For one who has conquered his mind, the mind is the best of friends. He has already reached the super soul. A transcendentalist thinks about god all the time. As a lamp does not waver in a windless place a yogi never waver from his thoughts of god. A true yogi sees god in everything. A transcend list never falls down even if he meets some hindrances.

1.  Unless one is rendering devotional service to the lord he should not renounce anything. One who works in devotion is dear to all. He is never entangled by the material world. Whatever he does is in Krshna Consciousness. He is aloof from all activities. The humble sage sees all living beings equally. A truly knowledgeable man looks within and thus attains Krshna consciousness.

1.  One who sees action in inaction and vice versa is in a transcendental position. He or she acts in krshna consciousness. His actions are burnt up in the fire of perfect knowledge. He accepts the results of his action for what they are worth and is ever free from duality. Sacrifice of knowledge is better than sacrifice of material things. The purpose of all sacrifices is to attain the goal of transcendental loving service to lord. All living beings are part of god. Even the most sinful cross the ocean of miseries when one is situated in the boat of transcendental knowledge. The fire of knowledge burns all material activities to ashes.

1.  The four divisions in the society are created by god on the basis of the three modes of material nature namely goodness, passion and ignorance.

1.  In order to deliver the pious and to annihilate the evil as well as to reestablish the principles of religion god manifests himself. A Krshna conscious person is called Sadhu (holy man). And one who ignores this aspect is called an evil man. God manifests himself primarily to save the holy but he has to annihilate the evil man in that process.

1.  Whenever there is a decline in spiritual and religious principles and there is a predominant rise in irreligion god manifests himself. The highest purpose of religion is to surrender oneself to the lord.

1.  The senses are superior to matter, the mind is superior to the senses, the intelligence is superior to the mind, the soul is superior to the intelligence and the super soul is superior to the soul. Senses give vent to the lust. The senses are activated by the mind which is guided by intelligence. All these are on the material plane. When there is Krshna Consciousness these things fail to work.

1.  One should relegate the senses from the very beginning for they are the greatest enemy of the knowledge of self. The knowledge of the self is very mysterious and is veiled by Maya. But it can be revealed only by god. You cannot make love for god out of lust just as you cannot make milk out of curd. But love for Krshna can make this possible.

1.  One should hence regulate one’s senses as a first step towards self realization. Maya or materialism veils the knowledge of the relation of the living entity with the supreme self. Lust is a perverted reflection of one’s love for god.

1.  A person who is in contact with material nature commits sinful acts though he does not want to. Man’s love for god turns into lust. This is just like milk when sour turns into curd. Love turns into lust which turns into hardened desire which in turn transforms into fear. Fear results in anger which turns into illusion culminating in false ego. When one transforms one’s lust into love or god one’s road towards self realization begins. The living entity is covered by different degrees of lust. Identification with the body is false ego. That with the soul is ego and that with the super soul is super ego.

1.  It is better to discharge one’s prescribed duties faultily than to engage in another’s duties for that path is dangerous. One man’s plans will be another man’s haywire. One man’s food is another man’s poison. This is because everyone is acting according to his mode of material nature. Everyone has to cleanse his or her heart gradually and not abruptly.

1.  Attraction and repulsion for sense objects are felt by embodied beings but they are stumbling blocks towards self realization. Those who are Krshna conscious are naturally reluctant towards sense gratification. And those who are not so should go through rules and regulations mentioned in revealed  scriptures and act accordingly. Loving service to Krshna detaches one from sensory activities.

1.  Even a man of knowledge acts according to his nature. He is in either of one of the three modes of material nature ie. Goodness, Passion or Ignorance. Unless one is in the transcendental platform of Krshna Consciousness, he cannot get rid of these.

1.  Those who out of envy disregard this knowledge of the supreme self and who do not practice spiritualism regularly are to be considered bereft of knowledge, are befooled and doomed towards ignorance and bondage. A person howsoever great in social status is considered a fool if he is not Krshna Conscious. There is no hope for perfection in life for him.

1.  Bewildered by the three modes of material nature the ignorant fully engage themselves in activities that attach them to materialism. The body is a gift from the material world and the ignorant who do not try to understand the spirit soul get attached to the body. For  them religious rituals are ends in themselves. The ignorant are always engaged in the material aspects of life. The spiritualists do not agitate them and instead  try to do their own work. However some kind hearted spritualists approach them and try to drag them into Krshna consciousness. 

KNOW YOURSELF

1.  One  who has the knowledge of the absolute truth does not engage in fruitive activities nor in sense gratification. He knows that he is a part and parcel of Krshna and should not have been in the material creation. He feels entrapped. Hence he thinks and works for Krshna alone.

1.  The bewildered soul under the influence of the three modes of material nature thinks that it is the doer of all actions when actually they are done by the nature itself. Two persons one in Krshna consciousness and one without may look similar to the common man but they are actually different. The other man due to his false ego thinks that he is the doer of all activities. He does not think that the very material body is created by god alone who is the doer of all activities. This man wants to take the credit for all activities. He forgets his eternal relationship with god.

1.  The self realized soul acts without attachment to results. That is the way to spiritual path. A Krshna conscious person does not do anything which is not conducive with his god consciousness. He is a true guide for humanity.

1.  If god stops working the world will be put to ruination and there will be creation of unwanted population resulting in lack of peace in all sentient beings. To avoid this there are rules and regulations that bring automatic peace and are conducive to spiritual progress. If humanity is misguided the responsibility goes to god. We can follow god and his principles but we cannot imitate him.

1.  Though god does not need anything nor any duty is prescribed for him yet he is engaged in carrying on with his work just to be a guide to humanity. He is a spiritual teacher who shows to humanity that all work is important. Otherwise it will take his example and become lazy.

1.  The common man always follows the footsteps of the great. These greats set exemplary standards the  whole world pursues. The teacher cannot manufacture rules of his own especially when they are against revealed scriptures. That is a sure way to progress.

1.  Kings like Janaka attained perfection just by performing their prescribed duties. Similarly one should do his work even if to set an example for the public in general. Experienced people will act in such a way that the others will follow.

1.  One who works for god, without any kind of personal attraction attains the supreme. This is action of the highest order. Krshna consciousness is transcendental.

1.  A self realized man has no duty to discharge nor does he have to depend on others for a living. He has to work just in Krshna consciousness. He does not take shelter of any one man or demigod.

1.  One who is illumined by the self and rejoices in it alone has no duty. A person who is God conscious and who lives only for god receives endless pleasure in doing so. He is satisfied by this act and has no interest in the material world.

The supply of air, light, water etc. is in their hands. Their pleasures and displeasure are dependent on the sacrifices by human beings. But the ultimate beneficiary is God. To satisfy him means to satisfy all.

1.  In the beginning lord sent forth all human beings along with sacrifices for Vishnu and blessed them by saying’’ be happy by doing this yagna which will bestow upon you all desirable things.’’ The material creation by the lord is for the conditioned souls to go back to god head.All souls are conditioned by the material world because of their forgetfulness of lord Vishnu. The actual purpose of every soul is as the eternal servitor of the lord.

1.  Work done as a sacrifice to god has to be performed otherwise it binds one to the material world. Nothing should be done for sense gratification. One should act very diligently under the expert guidance of a devotee of the lord. The work which is done for the gratification of god, will gradually elevate on to transcendental life which will then raise him to the kingdom of god.

1.  Perform your prescribed duty for action is better than lethargy. One cannot even maintain his physical  body without work. Pseudo renunciation is not approved by god. Activity in Krshna consciousness cleans one of all impurities.

1.  One who restrains his senses but has his mind dwelling on some objects is certainly a pretender. There are those who pretend to meditate as an excuse for their laziness. Actually their mind is lusty. Their  knowledge is of no value.

This is because the soul is present in the body which is dead otherwise. Hence it is very important to dovetail this activity into Krshna consciousness because such activity is permanent and bears results even after one’s death.

1.  Not by abstaining from work nor by renouncing all can anyone attain liberation. Renunciation can be obtained only after the discharge of duties is over. This results in purification of heart. One must dedicate oneself in the transcendental service of God.

1.  By contemplation on the objects of senses an attachment to them develops. This turns into desire, then lust, then anger, then illusion and then finally into false ego. When the desire gets too powerful a fear that one may lose that object develops. This fear gets an outlet in anger towards those who are objects of this anger. This impotent anger and unnecessary suspicion gives rise to persecution mania and illusion. This illusion that everyone is preventing one from getting his or her object of desire results in false ego.

1.  The senses are so impetuous that they even carry away one who is trying to control them, Just like sage Vishwamitra who fell for Menaka. The only way to control them is by total surrender to the lord. It is such a nice thing to one who tastes it will never fall for the distasteful sense enjoyment.

Even after liberated, the living entity is separated from the supreme soul.

1.  As a person discards old clothes and acquires new ones, the soul too discards old bodies and acquires new ones. This transfer of one soul to another is made possible only by the grace of the super soul. The super soul fulfills the desires of the soul just like a friend fulfills that of the other. One who lays down his life in the sacrificial alter immediately attains higher status in life.

1.  One should know that the self neither slays nor is ever slain. It is the body that slays or is slain but this argument does not permit murder. There is the soul and the supersoul which is all knowledgeable. Both are present in every living entity.

1.  The soul is imperishable. It pervades the whole body and is known as consciousness. It is floating in the five type of air called prana, apana, vyana, samana and udana. Hatha yoga is done to control these airs. The corpuscles which carry oxygen to the lungs to the whole body gather energy from the soul.

There is no endurance in the changing body but the spirit soul is permanent. The god’s abode has a spiritual and permanent existence. The relationship between the individual and god is that of a part and a whole. Thus the individual is always subordinate to god.

1.  Material activities are a source of perplexity to all and one who wants to be a self realized soul should humbly approach a spiritual master humbly for guidance from this perplexity. Material perplexities include attachment to one’s family.

1.  According to lord Krshna such material impurities should be eradicated and one should rise above them to become a self realized soul. The absolute truth is realized in the following three forms viz. Bhgawan, Paramatma & Brahman. This can be explained with the Sun planet, the sun’s surface and the sun shine. The advance of a student is from Brahman, to Paramatma and ultimately to Bhagwan. Those who have realized the utmost feature of god viz. Bhagwan are the top most transcendentalists. In the Bhagwan feature the god exhibits himself as all attractive, all knowledgeable, all powerful, all rich, all famous and all renounced.

1.  According to lord Krshna material impurities such as excessive attachment to relatives do not befit a wise man. This does not lead one to the higher world but to infamy. God as Maha Vishnu pervades the whole Universe, as Garbodakasayee Vishnu the whole planet and as Kshirodakasee Vishnu he is present in each of the living as well as non living beings.

1.  Arjuna saw the Kaurava army in which he saw several near and dear ones. He got disheartened at the sight. He was stunned to see so many of the relatives and friends who had come to fight with him, and were supporting the evil Duryodhana.

1.  Lord Krshna is termed as Hrishikesh   because he is the owner of all senses of the living entities especially those of his ardent devotees in every one of whom he resides as Kshirodakasai Vishnu.

1.  Bhishma lived in an illusive world and was very much attached to the material kingdom of Hastinapur. He was like the disillusioned cardinal Wolsey the man digraced by king Henry the eighth, who said ruefully ‘’had I served my lord with half the devotion that I showed this king I would not have come to such a sorry pass.’’ Duryodhana was scared that this wizened, old, and sanguine Bhishma would come to harm in this war and so he requested Dronacharya to protect him.

1.  Duryodhana wanted to indirectly accuse his commander and teacher for being affectionate with the Pandava prince Arjuna, and teach martial skills to Dhrishtadhumna who was born only to kill the teacher. This shows that a self realized soul like the teacher does not fear death.

1.  Dhrshrashtra was blind by birth which shows his utter ignorance. Hence his sons were also atheists and were pitted against the Pandavas who were pious souls. Dhrshrashtra’s eldest son Duryodhana inspite of his diplomacy literally ran towards his commander Dronacharya out of fear on seeing  the Pandava army.
