1. You
are not any one of the five elements of your body that is the ether, the air,
the fire, the water or the earth. You are the self which is the pure embodiment
of consciousness. The combination of these five elements makes the gross body
and the mind and intellect within make the subtle body. A desire first sprouts
as a thought disturbance in the mind which then with the connivance of the
intelligence snowballs into a flow of continuous ideas. This desire is
ultimately satisfied by the gross body. These are all apart from the pure self.
Just as the sun illuminates the objects in a room, similarly the self or the
consciousness illuminates the gross, subtle and causal bodies. This self is
realized when we meditate.
