Now let us take each storey as a caste. 

This way Sudra belongs to the 1^st storey, the Vaisya to the 2^nd storey, Ksatriya to the 3^rd storey & Brahmin to the 4^th storey.

Karna belonged to the 3^rd storey but was brought up in the 1^st storey.

This way he has a knowledge of the 1^st, 2^nd, & 3^rd stories.
