Ego is the cause for
ignorance. When it is subdued spiritual consciousness shines forth. Thinking of
objects attracts one to them. Once the senses are attracted the mind gets
attached. When this attachment grows the mind loses all discrimination. This
results in delusion. Delusion causes loss of memory. One forgets that he is a
soul not the body. Lustful thoughts and the desire for material things are the
greatest enemies and stumbling blocks for knowledge and divinity.

KNOW YOURSELF

All impurities are
washed away when one thinks and talks about god, and takes delight in his word.
One should delight in the self and love god. This is developed by:
Faith and reverence
Inquiry into the truth
Worshiping great
souls who have realized it
Taking delight in the
word of god
Shunning association
of the worldly
Learning to love
solitude
By nonviolence and
truthfulness
By studying the
scriptures
By control of the
senses
By overcoming the
passions
By not talking against
other religions
By patiently bearing
the opposites of life like pleasure and pain, happiness and distress etc
By singing the praises
of the glory of god
When love of god
arises in one, he becomes master of himself and spiritual teacher of all.
